DJ (Profile): "Little" Louie Vega

Born Luis Fernando Vager in 1965, this Bronx boy brings with him the legacy of a musical dynasty in the early days of New York Salsa. The son of Luis Vager a Saxophonist and the nephew of the legendary Hector Lavoe, "Little" Louie Vega is a critical player to the movement of House Music and has managed to put enough heat into his productions, collaborations and parties that he too provides supporting evidence that The Boogie Down knows how to rock a fucking party!

Louie Vega hit the freestyle movement DJing at the Devil's Nest in The Bronx and eventually moving on to venues such as The Palladium, Studio 54 and The Sound Factory. In 1990 Louie Vega partnered with Kenny Dope to form Master's at Work a name lifted from Kenny Dope's crew of Hip Hop DJs. The collaboration turned out to be gold covered in oil and sprinkled with diamonds, in other words, if you must create a soundtrack for the House movement during the 90's, you might as well just grab the Masters at Work 10th anniversary set... and thats 8, jam packed CD's of classic club bangers and room shakers that lit the dance industry on fire during that decade!

In addition, Louie Vega also produced under the name River Ocean and has produced with Nuyorican Soul, Freestyle Orchestra, Elements of Life and way too many to mention... this list goes on and on... no REALLY just check out his resume on Discogs!

In 2006 Louie Vega won the Grammy for Best Remixed Recording for Curtis Mayfield's Superfly.

Louie Vega seems to be on a short vacation at the moment, his next party will be at Club Cielo in New York on Wednesday August 26th.

I owe a great deal to "Little Louie Vega" for inspiring me to not only become a DJ and Producer, but to follow my heart into House Music and to create this website.

Please check back tomorrow for a Fresh New House Mix-tape featuring yours truly every Friday!

Don't forget to subscribe!

Peace!
